Today was the first day of school here at Fort Bragg and back in Iola where I used to teach. I started to miss it when I saw all the teachers getting ready for the big day. This morning I woke up and did not miss it at all. I did not have to be ready by 6:50 am in order to meet my carpool by 7am. I did not have to set classroom rules and expectations with a whole new group of sixth graders. I did not have to walk my kids to lunch, rush to the lounge to eat, and pick up my kids from lunch all in one 30 minute period. Best of all, I did not have to do early morning gym duty. That was the worst.
Instead, I got to wake up at 7am to my beautiful baby girl smiling in her crib. At 9 am, I met some friends and we walked with our strollers to Starbucks. I have always thought it would be so much fun to live within walking distance of a Starbucks, and now I do. At 10am, I took Carli to her weekly play group. I love to watch her play and take in all the sights and sounds. I ate lunch in my own home with my baby by my side. I cleaned and did laundry while she took a nap. I threw the Frisbee for Layla. I gave Carli a full body massage, and then I made dinner. I gave Carli a bath and read her a bedtime story. After a short devotional, we prayed, and she went to sleep.
It was a long day. It was a tiring day, but it was the best day. I would never give up the opportunity to spend these precious moments with my daughter. I do miss teaching, and I plan to go back to it someday, but it can wait. I love that I get to spend every day with my little girl. It is the best full-time job that I could ever have.

Taking care of Carli is the most important job! I'm so glad you can stay home with her.
I agree that it's the best! I can't imagine what it would be like not to be with my kids every day. Carli is lucky!
